The Duck and the Crow

On my walk to class, I witnessed the noble fight between the duck and the crow. The duck and his lovely mate were waddling through the grass, picking up the scraps of food between the grass blades and quacking contentedly. The crow landed softly beside them and stared with beady eyes at a larger scrap between them.
Then, the battle began.
Checking to see that his mate was behind him, the duck then turned to face his foe. A moment passed between them in taut anticipation and tension. Then, the crow flapped his wings agitatedly and cawed--presumably calling for backup. A muted caw answered him from a surrounding tree, but no other crow descended upon the scene.
The duck, sensing weakness, began to quack in earnest. Just as I thought the fight would become truly intense, the crow hopped away to another scrap and the ducks enjoyed their breakfast.
