The After

Life is often split between Befores and Afters. Before you learned how to walk. After you had your first date. Before you received your first ticket. After you graduated.

The trickier ones come in the moments that pull a heavy curtain behind you and thrust you right in the After.

Life, for a time, becomes a list of things that occurred before the event and things that will forever be after it.

With loss, the curtain can form a tunnel for a while, in which it seems impossible to think any time Before existed.

Eventually, life blurs the division until it is more transparent. You can never walk back through the curtain into the Before, but you can see through it slightly and try to live your life in the After.

And, more importantly, try to live your life in the Now.
