Junk Mail of Life

Stress is like junk mail. It deserves to be looked at briefly to see if it’s of any importance and then thrown out. It will most likely come back but, if not thrown out, it can pile up until it becomes chaotic and unmanageable.
So many of us live in the constant stream and bombardment of this junk mail of life that we do not even take a moment to think how it is affecting us. Furthering the metaphor, if we never delete the trash or unsubscribe from certain things, we lose room for important messages that could very well lead to happiness. Stress is certainly a normal part of life and, in some cases, a healthy part. However, when it becomes the motivation for which we do something, that is when it has changed its form. I, like so many other people, am a slave to my stress. I let it consume me until it is the reason why I want to complete an activity or assignment–not the activity itself. See the problem?
Categorically going through the messages of stress that life hands us is one way to deal with this problem. Like a muscle, this practice will become stronger with time until it is an unconscious practice to view this stress as a choice. Certainly we all have a myriad of choices in our life and stress is one of them. Don’t delete all the messages that life sends. Simply scroll through them for importance and then shut down the computer for a moment to enjoy the sunshine. :)
